Fingerless shooting gloves leave the fingertips exposed while covering part of the hand and wrist. The appeal is straightforward: access to your fingertips without taking the whole glove off. The trade-off is less coverage than a full glove or mitten.
When choosing a pair, look at the shape, palm measurement and wrist fit rather than relying on the words “shooting” or “sporting” alone.
Decide how much coverage you want
A fingerless style can suit everyday outdoor tasks where you want your fingertips free. It will not protect exposed fingertips from the weather, and it should not be treated as equivalent to a full winter glove.
For more coverage, compare full gloves and mittens. For a cuff that leaves the whole hand uncovered, read our wristlets versus fingerless gloves guide.
Compare our two sporting styles
- Sheepskin fingerless shooting mitts - £79. Handmade in our Suffolk workshop, with open fingertips, leather binding and an elasticated green cuff.
- Fingerless sporting gloves - £79. Handmade in the UK, with an elasticated wrist and a choice of finishes subject to availability.
Look closely at the product photographs to compare the openings and cuff shape. Check the selected size and colour on the product page; availability differs between variants. Prices checked on 18 October 2026.
Measure the hand, not the wrist
Wrap a flexible tape around your palm at the knuckles, excluding the thumb. The listed measurements for these sporting styles are Small 21.5cm (8½"), Medium 22.8cm (9"), Large 24.1cm (9½") and Extra Large 25.4cm (10"). Always check the product's own size guide when ordering.
The glove should feel secure while allowing comfortable movement. Check that seams and openings do not press into the hand when you bend your fingers. Do not buy an uncomfortably tight size in the expectation that it will stretch enough.
Think about the task as well as the warmth
Open fingertips allow direct contact with everyday items, but a product name cannot establish whether a glove is suitable for a particular task. For shooting or other equipment use, follow the equipment manufacturer's guidance and relevant safety instruction. These gloves are not a substitute for protective equipment.
Care after outdoor use
Avoid soaking the sheepskin. Air it between wears and let any dampness dry naturally away from direct heat. Read our rain and drying guide and the full care instructions.
Before buying as a gift, check the recipient's palm measurement and our returns policy. Compare the shooting mitts with the fingerless sporting gloves to choose the shape you prefer.
