Can Sheepskin Gloves Get Wet? Water Resistance, Rain and Drying

Sheepskin gloves should not be soaked. Some styles have a water-resistant finish that helps with light moisture, but that is different from waterproof protection. Before wearing a pair in rain, check the description and care guidance for that particular glove.

Water-resistant does not mean waterproof

Our ladies' suede sheepskin gloves have a specialist water- and stain-resistant treatment. They are intended to resist light moisture, not prolonged rain or immersion. Do not assume every sheepskin glove in the range has the same treatment.

If you need gloves for persistent rain, wet snow or specialist outdoor activities, choose a product with specifications suited to those conditions. Natural leather and wool alone are not a waterproof rating.

What to do if your gloves get wet

  1. Take them out of the rain and gently blot surface moisture with a clean cloth. Avoid soaking them further.
  2. Gently stuff the gloves with tissue paper to help maintain their shape.
  3. Leave them to air dry naturally in a ventilated place, away from radiators, fires and direct sunlight.
  4. Let them dry completely before storing. For a suede finish, brush gently once dry to restore the nap.

Do not try to speed things up with a tumble dryer or direct heat. Follow our full sheepskin care guide for the relevant material and finish.

Can you wash sheepskin gloves?

Do not machine wash Nursey sheepskin gloves or immerse them in water. For marks, use gentle spot cleaning with a specialist suede or sheepskin cleaner suitable for the finish. Use it sparingly and follow its instructions. For substantial staining or uncertainty about a treatment, ask us for advice before applying it.

Regular airing is often all the wool interior needs between wears. Avoid treating smooth nappa leather as though it were suede; the finish matters when choosing cleaning products.

Should you add a waterproofing spray?

Do not assume any leather spray is suitable for every sheepskin finish. Check the product's care guidance and the cleaner or protector manufacturer's instructions first. An additional treatment should not be taken as a guarantee of waterproofing.

Choosing a pair for everyday wear

For a treated suede style, compare our ladies' water-resistant sheepskin gloves. Check the palm measurements and current availability before ordering.
