Hats - Sizing & Care FAQ

Hats - Sizing & Care FAQ

Everything you need to choose the right size and get the most out of your Nursey Sheepskin hat - handmade in Suffolk from natural sheepskin, lambskin and British wool.

How do I find the right hat size?

Measure your head circumference with a flexible tape measure, placing it around your head just above your ears so it rests on the widest point of the back of your head. Compare that measurement to the sizing table on the product page for the style you're ordering - sizing is consistent across most of our hat styles, but always check the table for the specific product you're buying.

Hat size guide

Size Head Circumference
Small 55cm
Medium 57cm
Large 59cm
Extra Large 61cm

Some styles, such as our chunky knit beanie, are One Size and designed to fit most adult head sizes - check the individual product page to confirm.

What if my hat is too big or too small when it arrives?

If a size isn't right, you can return the item for a refund within 28 days of delivery, as long as it's unworn and has any labels still attached. Include your order number or proof of purchase with the return. We recommend getting proof of postage when you send it back.

Can I exchange for a different size instead of returning?

We're no longer able to process direct exchanges. If you need a different size, style or colour, please place a new order on the website for the correct item, and return your original item within 28 days for a refund. Delivery costs on the original order aren't refundable.

I bought this as a gift and the size is wrong - what do I do?

Email sales@nurseysheepskin.co.uk and let us know. We'll advise on where to send the gift back and help find the right size or style.

Are Nursey Sheepskin hats made in the UK?

Yes. Every hat is made in our workshop in Suffolk, from cutting through to final stitching, and each one is quality-checked before it's dispatched.

What's the difference between Tornado sheepskin, Toscana lambskin and British wool?

Tornado sheepskin is a dense, heavyweight hide chosen for maximum warmth and structure, with a distinctive curly wool texture. Toscana lambskin has a longer, silkier curl and a softer, lighter feel, often used for trim and headbands. British wool styles use a chunky knit construction rather than sheepskin, giving a lighter, more flexible fit. Each product page will tell you which material your chosen style is made from.

Are sheepskin hats waterproof?

No. Our sheepskin hats are water resistant and will tolerate light rain, but we recommend avoiding heavy downpours to maintain the quality of the natural sheepskin and suede.

Do sheepskin hats stretch or lose their shape over time?

The natural sheepskin will adapt slightly to the shape of your head with wear, but our hats are built to retain their overall structure. As sheepskin is a natural product, a very gentle softening and moulding to your head is normal and expected, not a sign of the wrong size.

How do I care for a sheepskin hat?

If the hat gets wet, allow it to air dry naturally at room temperature - never use direct heat. For routine maintenance, gently brush the sheepskin or suede with a soft brush. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
